I had been wanting to check out Chez Ma Tante for awhile now given how much buzz there's been about this place. After making a reservation via Resy more than a month ago, we met up for the big event (brunch) this past Saturday.
However, things didn’t get off to the best start given we weren’t seated for 45 minutes after our reservation time.
Moving on, I've repeatedly read that Chez Ma Tante in Greenpoint has the "Best Pancakes in Brooklyn." Sorry to report, as an experienced eater of pancakes in Brooklyn, that is not the case. They're fine, but they were excessively greasy. It was more like eating a flattened version of an old fashioned donut.
(IMO: If you want The Best Pancakes in Brooklyn, go to Luluc in Cobble Hill or Sunday in Brooklyn in Williamsburg. You will never leave disappointed.)
Is it a surprise that I found the chips/fries to be the best item we ordered off the menu? Those combined with the harissa and hummus from the falafel dish really made the whole meal satisfying.
Overall, the vibe and ambiance in here was relaxing. If there’s only one or two of you (maybe three if you get the corner) the bar is a nicer place to sit. For the wine list, the cocktails menu, and the overall mood, I’d give this place another try for dinner. But I don’t know if I have enough patience to try again for brunch.
