Why are we here? Why are any of us here? Let's discuss over champagne and fries at the bar while we wait to find out...
If I could narrow down my favorite meal (and I realize I'm using the term "meal" lightly here) to just two components, it would be champagne and fries. (Second would be pizza and red wine.)
Not only do plenty of reports (I'll post those receipts in a separate post soon) that the flavor combination *just works*, but they also just make me happy. (Not to mention, being a vegetarian, they're the easiest satisfactory pairing you can find virtually anywhere, from a steakhouse to a crab shack to a vegan café. I'm always being asked if I'm going to have trouble finding something to eat, and honestly, don't worry about it! I've got it covered—or more like the bubbles and frites have ME covered.)
I've written about wine, food, travel, tech, and more from New York, San Francisco, Paris, and beyond. And like many tech reporters, I've joked about what my Big Startup Idea could be. (I'm still working on that one...)
Yet it finally dawned on me—while having just this combo at the famed Waverly Inn in the West Village (sorry to sound pretentious, but did you see the site title here?)—that I should blog about this highly underrated culinary pairing. So here I am, setting out on a journey to chronicle the life and times of champagne and fries, and the people who consume them. One plate of chips and glass (who am I kidding, bottle) of sparkling wine at a time.
